krabat' is a german fantasy novel by otfried preußler based on a wendish fairytale saga that dates back to the 18th century. the book's leading character is an orphan boy who has to find his way between the secrets of black magic and the power of love. klangstabil, who have been fascinated since childhood by this mysterious and ominous tale, playfully combined various musical elements on an electronic and acoustical level to achieve an innovative representation of krabat's story. 'kantorka', the singing girl, is the personification of love and represented a new feature in the works of the unique german project when this album was initially released on vinyl in 2001. 'kantorka's music is a mesh between mostly acoustic-sounding spacey electronica and small glitchy elements flowing at an energetic pace set by percussion drops. melancholic, quiet, expressive, and hauntingly beautiful. the complex monotony of the six tracks is carrying clear and unexpected structures, creating a balancing act between melancholic harmonies and the energetic expressiveness klangstabil are well-known to experienced listeners of their works. illustration: herbert holzing - (c) 1981 by. k. thienemanns verlag. stuttgart - wien.
